A couple of months ago we were approached by Kim & Leanne, the founders of the Holah Baby Home, to help them with their Annual High Tea Charity Fundraiser. This would be their 5th year of hosting the event and they wanted it to be bigger and better than ever before!

The Holah High Tea is the charity’s main fundraising event for the year and it’s focus is three-fold; to raise awareness about adoption in SA and the work the charity is doing to help this process, raise funds for the year ahead and lastly, to create an enjoyable and fun event which allows the public to see the awesome work they are doing.

Likhon iThemba, the charity under which Holah Baby Home is run, is a registered NPO based in Durban, KZN and run by two incredible people; Kim & Leanne. The charity was set up in 2012 and currently has three main projects or focus areas:

1) HOLAH baby house

This is a safe-haven that exists to love and care for babies placed in the Home’s care until they can be placed with adoptive families. The babies that come to HOLAH have either been abandoned, orphaned, given up for adoption or removed from their parents care.

2) Bowl of Plenty (BOP)

In a nutshell, BOP is a feeding scheme which aims to collect donations in the form of food and basic supplies from certain communities that want to get involved. These donations of perishable and non-perishable items, new and second hand are then donated to creches, families in need and other struggling NPOs.

3) Charity Hop Shop

Charity Hop shop is a charity shop that Likhon iThemba set up in October 2016 in Glenwood. The purpose of the shop is to generate funds to support and run the projects of Likhon iThemba through the sale of donated second-hand items.

Back to the Holah High Tea Charity Fundraiser…

So when Kim & Leanne approached Avonmore SuperSpar it was in the hope that we would sponsor and create the food to cater for their target of 400 guests…and we said YES, we would love to! The theme for the event was “Glitter Girls” and we thought this would be a great opportunity to showcase the delicious food our SuperSpar is capable of making as well as helping out a very worthy cause!

The event was held at Grace Family Church and just over 250 tickets were sold! The morning included:

-       Flee Market with a variety of awesome vendors

-       Live Music performances

-       Speech done by Kim about adoption in SA

-       Performance by the Famous Glitter Girls

-       Auction & Prize-giving

-       Delicious snacks and treats served by Avonmore SuperSpar

It took us all night with a team of 10 people to prepare, cook and get ready for this event! It then took 5 cars to load up all the 120 odd platters and make our way to the venue where we presented the delicious food – it certainly was a LOT of fun and we were extremely proud of the selection we presented. In total, Avonmore SuperSpar donated food to the value of over R 40 000 to the event! Here is a short video showing our journey (click on image to play):
